Stress and Resilience: Harnessing Wearable Technology and Machine Learning for First Responders at Algonquin College  

OTTAWA (Mon., March 17, 2025) – Algonquin College invites you to a micro-net funding announcement to benefit first responders. This initiative will enable pattern recognition and identification and stress indicators through the data analytics and advanced machine learning from wearable devices. The project objectives are to monitor and assess real-time physiological stress indicators and reported stress indicators, develop reliable results to advance field trading and operations in supporting first responders’ resilience and the sustainability of emergency response as a whole.

This project was supported by the Canadian Safety and Security Program, a federal program led by Defence Research and Development Canada’s Centre for Security Science, in partnership with Public Safety Canada.

The Micro-net is a multidisciplinary team consisting of eleven partners/recipients from eligible organizations or institutions, collectively referred to as the Micro-net Members.

The study’s data analytics and machine learning algorithms provide ongoing improvement for emergency response organizations, fostering operational optimization. The goal is to establish integrated continuous data collection on stress and resilience while facilitating adoption by emergency organizations and training institutions. This integration enhances interventions for resilience and contributes to the development of stress-cognizant, evidence-based model.
