Innovation meets education at Algonquin College applied research showcase

OTTAWA (July 25, 2024) – Algonquin College’s Applied Research Student Project Showcase highlights leading-edge applied research done in collaboration with industry, institutional and community partners, providing a glimpse into the future of technology and the current state of innovation.
More than 50 student-driven applied research projects will be exhibited, ranging in topics from computer programming, interactive media design, robotics, automation, engineering, interdisciplinary studies in human-centred design and more. The showcase provides an opportunity for employers to engage with talent and pursue collaborative opportunities to support their businesses’ growth and impact.

Project Highlights
Here’s a preview of some of the projects you will see in the showcase:
- Automated Inspection System (Robotics and Automation): Developed for manufacturing quality control, this system uses cutting-edge robots and imaging technology to precisely detect defects and deviations.
- Enhancing flying experience projects (Interdisciplinary Studies in Human-Centred Design): Students researched challenges faced by travelers, especially those with disabilities, to improve airport environments. Their goal: to create a more inclusive and accessible travel experience.
- Recreational Facilities Booking Mobile App (Computer Programming Program): A mobile app that aims to improve convenience and accessibility for Ottawa residents in booking public facilities for recreational sports. It optimizes resource allocation and fosters collaboration between residents and school boards.
