RE/ACTION: Virtual Applied Research Showcase on Aug. 12

OTTAWA (Aug. 10, 2022) — The Algonquin College Office of Applied Research will host its RE/ACTION Applied Research Showcase on Friday, Aug. 12, 2022.
The event highlights innovations in applied research undertaken by students, including an online portal documenting the crimes against the Yazidi people, personal security app technology, multiple initiatives to increase food sovereignty for struggling students and many other exciting projects.
Please join us this Friday to watch the finalists compete in hybrid format and go through the catalogue of projects.

Project highlights:
- Yazidi Legal Network support: An online access resources documenting crimes against Yazidis and their experiences as survivors of ISIL.
- Helping with IRCC Wait Times: Two student teams took on the task of helping to reduce the wait times new arrivals to Canada face in contact Customs & Immigration.
- Safety Application: Aegis, a personal security app, allows users to send SOS messages to prechosen contacts and automatically records audio and video at the push of a button.
- Digital Signage Management System: Digital signage systems are rapidly become ubiquitous and managing a large number of signage systems across multiple device types can be immensely challenging. A student team developed a simple to use system to easily manage any number of screens from almost any device.
- Student Food Security: Several projects dedicated to improving student access to nutritious food through the Algonquin Students’ Association Food Cupboard.
