Manitoba College Partners with Algonquin in an Indigenous Job-Skills Program

A Manitoba college has declared itself a “proud partner” with Algonquin College in providing Indigenous youth with trades training while they extend their schooling.

In a news release this week, Assiniboine Community College said it would deliver an applied building construction program from early January to late August as part of a national job-readiness program known as Indigenous YouthBuild Canada (IYBC). The three-year, $7-million program is funded by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC).
ESDC selected Algonquin College in mid-December to provide oversight and manage the funds on behalf of the federal government. Assiniboine is one of six educational institutions across Canada to partner with Algonquin.

Collectively, the partners will provide some 360 Indigenous youth with earn-as-you-learn opportunities.
