Algonquin College Looking for Students Interested in Manufacturing Career

Algonquin College Corporate Training is offering a unique opportunity for those looking for a career in manufacturing that includes free training, paid work placements and mentorships toward an EMC Manufacturing Essential Certification. The certification program, with 15 available spots, is open to Ontario residents age 18+ who are legally entitled to work in Canada.

The program, overseen by Ontario Excellence in Manufacturing Consortium (EMC) and implemented and run by Algonquin College’s Corporate Learning will provide students with an EMC Manufacturing Essential Certification.

“We’re very excited to partner with EMC sharing the course content that EMC has developed,” said Jennifer Collins, Senior Learning Consultant, Corporate Learning. “Partnering with EMC opens so many doors to manufactures locally by finding and skilling workers to fill job vacancies in their organizations so they can grow. It’s a great opportunity.”

The program begins January 25, 2021 and includes two weeks of virtual training with four paid placement weeks and weekly check-ins with instructors. Those currently working in the manufacturing sector will mentor job-seekers during their placement. There are 15 seats available for the successful applicants to this program who are seeking careers in manufacturing.

“Now is a perfect time to apply,” said Collins. “Perhaps, because of COVID-19 you have been downsized. With this program you can increase your skills set and be placed with a manufacturer in the Ottawa area.”

Collins continued. “This opportunity is for employment within the entire manufacturing sector; including food manufacturing, plastics manufacturing, steel and aluminum, basically anything that falling within the manufacturing sector. Manufacturers are not looking only to fill positions of workers on the plant floor, but for engineers, project managers, and supervisor positions.”

Successful candidates will go through an application process to ensure they are able to meet all program requirements. Applications are open now. The registration deadline is January 21, 2021.
