Message from the President – A Message on Racism and Discrimination
Posted on Monday, June 1st, 2020
Dear Colleagues and Learners,
While I plan to send out a more detailed communiqué later this week, I did not want another day to pass without mentioning the violence we are seeing across North America, particularly in the United States. I am deeply troubled that our society continues to be besieged by racism and discrimination of any kind and am saddened to read of those who have suffered or lost their lives because of it.
If you need support at this time, please do not hesitate to reach out so that we can help you. Learners can find resources here and our employees can find resources here.
I want to be clear that diversity and inclusion are core values of Algonquin College, and I encourage you to read our Inclusion and Diversity Blueprint.
As a College, we stand against racism and prejudice in all its forms. In particular, I am conscious of the critical role we play in the education of the next generation of law-enforcement officers — we have a track record of producing excellent graduates who serve their communities with honour and compassion and, and with the leadership of our faculty, I know that record will stand.
Above all, I want to reaffirm our commitment to our values of Caring, Learning, Integrity and Respect. I also want to state unequivocally that discrimination and racism have no place at our College. As our Inclusion and Diversity Blueprint notes, this is a long-term commitment, and we will stand united.
Our College community is made up of people from around the world, of many different backgrounds, faiths and ethnicities. Each and every one of you enriches our College, and we welcome you as part of our Algonquin family — today and always.
Sincerely,
Claude Brulé
President and CEO
