Algonquin College launches free virtual training to support the business community during COVID-19

AC's Learning Centre(OTTAWA, March 26) – Algonquin College’s Learning Centre has launched free online courses to help support the community during the COVID-19 outbreak.

The College’s corporate training centre is offering virtual classroom training – free of charge (with the exception of fees for select books and exams) – until April 30.

Visit the initiative’s microsite for details on courses and dates.

“We are all in this together and Algonquin College wanted to give back to businesses and employees in these difficult times,” said Claude Brulé, Algonquin College President and CEO. “Our College lives by its values of Caring, Learning, Integrity and Respect. In our small way, we hope to do our part by delivering valuable training and skills development online during this period of uncertainty.”

At least three virtual courses – ranging from two to four days in length – are being held each week throughout March and April. Course subjects include Business Analysis in an Agile Environment, Project Management, Business Relationship Management, Change Management, Business Analysis and Transformation Leadership.

The roster of online courses is fluid and based on demand; more dates will be added in the coming weeks and additional courses will also be developed. Registration is limited to one course per individual.

“We know businesses, employers and employees are being challenged like never before,” said Doug Wotherspoon, Algonquin’s Executive Director of Business Development. “These courses were in the final stages of development and our Learning Centre team stepped up their efforts so that we could unveil them now free-of-charge. These online courses provide an opportunity to improve and develop our workforce during unprecedented times – a period in which many people are being asked to work from home or may be looking to update their CV.”

The Learning Centre opened in December 2019 and serves employers and individuals looking for retraining, skills upkeep and development.

The Learning Centre’s new online courses build on the College’s record as a trailblazer in online education. In 2019, Algonquin College was ranked first in online enrolments among all Canadian colleges and CEGEPS.

Reservation requests for the free virtual courses can be made here; the Learning Centre will respond within 48 hours to confirm an individual’s spot in a particular course.
