Algonquin-Carleton Team Places First in Cyber Security Challenge

Algonquin College, Carleton University, University of Ottawa, and College La Cite on Saturday. Algonquin and Carleton joined forces to compete on two teams, Hackey Sack, who won first place, and Taylor Swift who placed third. The Boys from La Cité came in second place.

In total, 24 students competed for bragging rights, a trophy, entry to the CyberSCI National Finals in April in Ottawa, the opportunity to represent Canada at the European Championship in Vienna, Austria in November, and a chance at one of many jobs provided by sponsors Bank of Canada, Bell, BriteSky, CGI and Rigel Kent.

During the Cyber Security Challenge, students compete in teams to recon a vulnerable computer network, break through the cyber defenses, take control of the systems, and advise the company on how to defend against cyber attacks. Finalists then do on-site interviews with the event’s sponsoring companies.
