Message from the President – Potential OSSTF Walkout
Posted on Tuesday, December 3rd, 2019
Dear Learners and Colleagues,
The Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) has announced that it intends to hold a one-day walkout for all members on Wednesday, Dec. 4, unless an agreement is reached. If this occurs, all Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) elementary and secondary schools will be closed to students. In addition, the two Ottawa French-language school boards have announced that their schools will have to close to ensure student safety.
While we remain optimistic that a settlement can be reached prior to the commencement of a one-day walkout, we would like to encourage any of you who could be impacted by this situation to consider how it might affect your normal family routines.
Faculty members and frontline staff should also be aware of the impact a one-day walkout could have on learners. Please encourage your learners to connect with you should they not be able to attend class so arrangements can be made for them to catch up on their studies.
Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP)
Some of you may have children attending schools that are impacted. For those employees still identifying alternate childcare, we want to take this opportunity to remind you of the resources of our Employee and Family Assistance Program. EFAP is available to support our employees. Morneau Shepell, our EFAP provider, is available 24/7 and can be reached at: 1-844-880-9142. By calling, individuals will receive professional consultation and support and/or referral to community resources.
This is an evolving situation and we will update the College community as more information becomes available.
Sincerely,
Claude Brulé
President and CEO
