RE/ACTION: Applied Research Showcase on December 3

OTTAWA – The Algonquin College Office of Applied Research, Innovation & Entrepreneurship will be hosting its RE/ACTION: Applied Research Showcase on Tuesday, December 3, 2019.

RE/ACTION highlights leading-edge applied research done in collaboration with industry, institutional and community partners, providing a glimpse into the future of technology and the current state of innovation.

You’re invited to explore our teams’ incredible findings and creations. Ranging from robotics and innovative apps to artificial intelligence, their work is incredibly diverse. Where else can you find a personal-assistant robot next to a mobile fitness app?

When: Tuesday, December 3, 2019, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Where: Algonquin College, 1385 Woodroffe Ave., Ottawa

  • Guest Speakers (9:30 a.m. to 10:10 a.m.): Sarah Abood, CEO and Co-Founder, Thawrih
    Chris Castillo, Professor of Entrepreneurship and author of “Small Business: An Entrepreneur’s Plan” and “Bucket of Wisdom” Book

Project Showcase and Awards: (10:10 a.m. to 12:50 p.m.), C Building (Discovery Zone)

Project highlights:

  • Machine-Vision Robot: A machine-vision module – built to achieve tasks like object and facial recognition – attached to a mobile robot. The project will be developed further to function as a personal assistant device for the elderly.
  • Casey, an AI Tool for Students: An AI tool to help students identify and locate the most appropriate resources for their needs.
  • ReFlex Fitness Application: A fitness application that allows users to select various workout routines through a mobile application.
