Dr. Keltie Jones will become the sixth Dean in the 52 year history of Algonquin College’s Pembroke Campus. The College’s Senior Vice President, Academic, Claude Brulé, has announced Dr. Jones will begin her tenure on August 26 following an extensive cross country search to find a new Dean for the College’s largest regional campus.
“Dr. Jones has an impressive background in post-secondary education and I look forward to working with her and seeing the Pembroke Campus continue to flourish under her guidance and leadership,” says Brulé.
Dr. Jones joins the campus from the Faculty of Agriculture at Dalhousie University in Truro, Nova Scotia, where she was the Assistant Dean, Students and Academic Administration. She also held the position of Associate Vice President of Academic for Students at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College in Truro, prior to the College merging with Dalhousie University.
“I am very excited to join Algonquin College’s Pembroke Campus. This campus has an excellent reputation as one of the leading regional college campuses in Canada. I am especially impressed by the culture of student support and engagement at the Pembroke campus, and I am really looking forward to working with the faculty and staff to continue the great work that is already happening on campus,” says Jones.
In addition to her experience in leadership roles within Canadian post-secondary institutions, Dr. Jones was also the Dean of Counselling and Student Services at the American River College in Sacramento, California and was a Coordinator in the Student Disability Centre at the University of California, Davis.
Dr. Jones holds a Doctoral Degree in Business Administration from Athabasca University, a Juris Doctorate from the University of California, Davis, and a Bachelor of Arts with Departmental Honours and Distinction from Stanford University.
During her time in Truro, Dr. Jones has been heavily involved in community organizations including the town’s tourism advisory committee and its United Way campaign. She has also done a significant amount of international work during her post-secondary career.
Dr. Jones succeeds Karen Davies who retired in January after leading the campus since 2006. Other Deans or Principals of the Pembroke Campus have included Marguerite Donohue, Bob Wilson, Frank Havey and Arthur Tiesdell who was the first Principal when the campus opened in 1967.
The Pembroke Campus currently offers 20 full-time programs, serving approximately 1,000 students.
