Algonquin College to partner with three Ontario colleges in new agreement

OTTAWA — Algonquin College is announcing a groundbreaking new partnership with three other Ontario Colleges.

Under a Memorandum of Understanding signed on Jan. 16, Algonquin College will partner with Northern College, Sault College and Lambton College to create a framework for collaboration in applied education. The agreement will allow the colleges to work together on academic programming and administrative processes to provide new opportunities for learners at these institutions.

“This agreement is going to give our students new avenues to learn while simultaneously supporting innovation and hands-on learning at all four colleges,” said Algonquin College President Cheryl Jensen. “What’s more, it allows each institution to play to its own strengths to the benefit of all.”

The agreement focuses on four main goals:

  1. Ensure learners have access to programs and courses, applied research, and experiential learning opportunities
  2. Avoid duplication and share the cost of expenses incurred for academic development and co-delivery of select programs either on-site or online specific to regional needs and institutional strengths.
  3. Develop new opportunities for learners through innovative delivery options.
  4. Facilitate inter-institutional use of resources to support faculty at participating institutions and propose an incubator for faculty to experiment with a variety of tools and methods to support learning.

The agreement was signed by President Jensen as well as President Fred Gibbons of Northern College, President Ron Common of Sault College and President Judith Morris of Lambton College.
