Algonquin College’s Ottawa Campus will be open for all classes and activities on Monday, July 23rd .
Crews have worked through the weekend to successfully restore power to the College. While some areas are still operating on reduced power this afternoon, all areas are expected to be at full power in time for the start of the new week. This will include areas that involve our external partners, such as the Algonquin College Early Learning Centre, Pro Physio, and the Police and Public Safety Institute.
The College is drawing power from one of its two high-efficiency co-generation natural gas plants, supplemented by generators for many of the buildings.
Crews are still working to pinpoint the source of the problem, which caused an outage on Friday afternoon that affected all areas of the Ottawa Campus except the ACCE Building. A final diagnosis of the problem is expected early this week, at which time the appropriate materials will be ordered and a contractor will be hired for the installation process. We estimate these repairs could take up to seven weeks.
During this time, the College will be working to reduce demands on our temporary power structures. This will mean that we will not be able to run our heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems at full capacity to avoid the possibility of further power disruptions. While we will be cooling all buildings, students and employees may notice that some areas may feel a bit warmer than usual.
The Residence continues to have full power and air conditioning supplied by generators.
We apologize for any inconvenience during this temporary situation and appreciate your attention to this notice. Special thanks to Physical Resources staff and all the supporting teams from across the College who worked over the weekend to reduce disruption and get things back on track for Monday.
Please watch for updates on myAC and the College’s social media channels.
