Power Outage Update

To: All students and employees
What: Power Outage update

Friday, July 20, 2018, 10:30 p.m.

Crews are still working to restore power to parts of the Ottawa Campus, which was struck by a wide scale outage at approximately 3 p.m. Friday afternoon. We are unable to provide an ETA on the restoration of full power at this time.

In the interim, please be advised that:

• The ACCE Building is operating normally and all regularly scheduled activity will continue there on Saturday.

• All regularly scheduled activities, programs, and services in areas of the Ottawa Campus other than ACCE Building will be suspended on Saturday and until further notice. Employees in non-essential roles are advised not to come to the campus.

• Residence is currently operating on partial power but remains open. We are working to restore power to the Residence as soon as possible through the addition of a second generator.

The problem has been diagnosed as a fault in the conductors running from Woodroffe Avenue and College Avenue to the central plant. A specialist is looking at the best and most efficient options to restore full power to the campus, though this may take some time depending on the availability of repair parts.

As well, crews are working to take advantage of our high-efficiency co-generation power plant. These natural gas plants can generate enough power to cover the baseline power needs of the Ottawa campus.

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your attention to this notice.

Please watch for updates on myAC and the College’s social media channels throughout the weekend.
