Algonquin College, Ottawa Hospital to Host Premier Screening Of #Flashforward Season III

This Thursday, April 20, teams of young filmmakers will descend on Algonquin College for the culmination of the third season of #FlashForward, a 10-week program that sees high-school students team up with college student mentors to collaborate with The Ottawa Hospital.

“This is our third year hosting the program and we are consistently impressed by the quality of work done by the high school students,” says Kevin Holmes, project manager for Algonquin College’s Health and Wellness Research Centre. “The videos are outstanding, and I think that can be attributed to the dedication of the secondary students, but also to the guidance they receive from our amazing college student mentors here at Algonquin.”

Run under the guidance of the Algonquin College Broadcast and Advertising students, #FlashForward is a competitive, hands-on, educational program that connects the high-school filmmakers, working in teams, with clients at The Ottawa Hospital. These clients have specific communications challenges and require PSA-style videos. Not only do the students create these videos, but they also gain valuable experience in client briefing, concept development, script writing, camera techniques, editing and post-production.

The ongoing partnership between Algonquin College and The Ottawa Hospital will have lasting impacts on the wellbeing of our community. These videos are useful teaching tools that allow the hospital to promote our core values — compassion and commitment to quality,” says Dr. Alan Forster, Vice President, Quality, Performance and Population Health at the Ottawa Hospital. “#FlashForward is an innovative approach that engages youth to reach hospital staff and the community and we look forward to continuing this partnership.”

Awards will be given for the best overall film, best concept and best production at Thursday’s Premiere Screening event, which is open to the general public.
