Under the theme of “dream big,” Algonquin College’s Pembroke campus held its first TEDxPembroke event this past weekend, drawing a sell-out crowd. The Saturday afternoon event featured seven speakers, including the CEO of Canadian Nuclear Laboratories, Mark Lesinski, and the Director of Emergency Services for Renfrew County, Michael Nolan.

Algonquin College President, Cheryl Jensen and Vice-President of Academic, Claude Brulé, both attended the event, which was held as part of the Pembroke campus’ efforts to build a more entrepreneurial spirit both on campus and in the broader community. The TEDx event was attended by a good mix of college students, employees and the general public and also included talks by two Environmental Technicians students who shared their personal journeys in overcoming challenges.

The event was planned by a dedicated group of staff at the Pembroke Campus that included the campus Entrepreneur-in-Residence, Chris Doré; Marketing and Event Planning Officer, Jodi Bucholtz; faculty members Erin Whyte and Kim Drake; Students’ Association employee Jenny Hodgson; Bryan Linkletter of the ITS department and Shawn Behnke, the campus videographer.
