AC First Gen

If you are a full-time or part-time student enrolled in an online or on-campus program at Algonquin College and your parents or guardians have not attended any institution of higher education in Ontario or elsewhere including outside Canada, you are considered a First Generation Student.

What is AC First Gen?

AC First Gen is a valuable system of support for First Generation Students at Algonquin College. Available initiatives to support enrolled First Generation Students include:

  • Sponsored Peer Tutoring each semester
  • 1-on-1 Job Coaching & Workplace Literacy
  • Ontario First Generation Bursary
  • Mobile Application Support
  • Networking Events
  • And more…

These initiatives assist First Generation students remain in college and successfully complete their post-secondary education.

Student Success Specialists

Student Success Specialists provide support and resources to help students achieve their academic and personal goals. Each school has a designated Student Success Specialist that work closely with coordinators, faculty and various college areas to help students have a positive and fulfilling learning experience. Students are encouraged to connect with their Student Success Specialist on a regular basis to ensure that they are on track.

Program Coordinators / Academic Advisors

Program Coordinator or Academic Advisors are available to assist students from an academic standpoint, from explaining the academic requirements for programs offered, interpret academic policies and procedures, develop program plans, discuss various program options, and refer students to appropriate supports and services in the college. Students are encouraged to connect with their academic advisor for academic guidance.
