Student Experience
What to Expect
Develop strong technical, conceptual and creative skills while exploring various techniques
The Illustration and Concept Art program at Algonquin College is well-suited for students who enjoy exciting and creative art and are open to exploring various styles, techniques and approaches to conceptual visual communication.
Students begin the development of their drawing skills by exploring form, proportion, space and light as they relate to the figure. They complete drawing exercises from sculptures, models, and from life in a variety of settings on and off campus. Illustration techniques are applied for the production of websites and mobile devices which require skills in storyboarding, character design and asset building.
Through in-class discussion, hands-on learning activities, critical analysis, and technical applications, students explore various techniques to develop their own personal styles and expand their portfolios.
Student Success & Testimonials
About a year ago, I decided to switch programs and leave the University I was previously enrolled in for a future in illustration. I had studied a course in the Illustration and Concept Art program for a semester in my previous University and realized that this program could offer me exactly the kind of education that I required and also the kind of creative environment that I would fit perfectly into. So I decided to take a chance and move to Algonquin since I decided that it would be the perfect place for me to harvest my passion.
After spending a semester in the Illustration and Concept Art program, I now know for a fact that I made the right decision in coming to this program at Algonquin College. I fit perfectly in an environment which makes me feel right at home with a lot of like-minded people who constantly inspire me to get better. I am surrounded by professors who pay special attention to each student and aim to prepare the students to become professionals in the industry.
I would definitely recommend this program to anyone who aspires to be a part of the Art industry and more importantly, I would recommend Algonquin College as a perfect learning ground for everyone.

I was looking for concept illustrators to work on a wide range of projects, from live events to TV commercials. This was a paid position for a junior level candidate with some basic experience working in a professional environment.
We employed two Illustration and Concept Art graduates, and were very pleased with their work. They were both excellent with communication and speed, and we liked their style. I’m sure we will be in touch with them for projects down the road.
Thanks again for passing on the names, much appreciated.
