This accelerated two-year Film and Media Production Ontario College Diploma program, delivered over three academic periods (semesters), gives you hands-on experience with the equipment and processes used in the film and screen-based media production industry. The production industry has been an important contributor to the provincial, national and international economies for years. You benefit from the City of Ottawa`s promotion of the National Capital Region as a film-friendly location for local and external film production companies.
Participate in the creation of music videos, factual television, dramatic and documentary productions, and immerse yourself in the complete workflow of modern digital filmmaking - from production to direction and cinematography to post-production and delivery.
Through the creation of original student content and participation in real-world productions, the program mirrors the experience and expectations of the production industry and prepares you for careers in the film production sector. Through field placement, you examine the responsibilities and expectations of working on film sets, while learning and networking alongside established industry professionals.
Graduates may find entry-level employment in a variety of positions at production houses, post-production facilities, advertising agencies, government departments and equipment rental facilities.

Courses
Programs at Algonquin College are delivered using a variety of instruction modes. Courses may be offered in the classroom or lab, entirely online, or in a hybrid mode which combines classroom sessions with virtual learning activities. Learning Outcomes
The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to:
- Operate industry standard production equipment to create and deliver digital film content for multiple platforms.
- Develop a portfolio and career path by working effectively as a member of a digital film production team in a variety of capacities and roles.
- Manage schedules and budgets in the creation, marketing and distribution of digital film, video and/or screen-based productions.
- Apply fundamental camera and lighting techniques to meet technical standards and enhance story-telling in the creation of independent digital film projects.
- Develop screen-based storytelling skills in order to create engaging film scripts with effective dialogue, structure and character development.
- Create a soundscape using appropriate music and sound effects to enhance screen-based project effectiveness.
- Adhere to current digital workflow techniques to ensure content delivery standards are met in the production and post-production stages.
- Enhance film vocabulary and develop a personal visual style by evaluating film classics and contemporary cinema.
- Conduct work safely in accordance with all applicable acts, regulations, legislation, and codes to ensure personal and public safety.
- Identify and apply discipline-specific practices that contribute to the local and global community through social responsibility, economic commitment and environmental stewardship.

Admissions Requirements
All applicants must satisfy both College Eligibility and Program Eligibility requirements.
College Eligibility
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent. Applicants with an OSSD showing senior English and/or Mathematics courses at the Basic Level, or with Workplace or Open courses, will be tested to determine their eligibility for admission; OR
- Academic and Career Entrance (ACE) certificate; OR
- General Educational Development (GED) certificate; OR
- Mature Student status (19 years of age or older and without a high school diploma at the start of the program). Eligibility may be determined by academic achievement testing for which a fee will be charged.
Program Eligibility
- English, Grade 12 (ENG4C or equivalent).
- Applicants with international transcripts must provide proof of the subject-specific requirements noted above and may be required to provide proof of language proficiency. Domestic applicants with international transcripts must be evaluated through the International Credential Assessment Service of Canada (ICAS) or World Education Services (WES).
- IELTS-International English Language Testing Service (Academic) Overall band of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in each band; OR TOEFL-Internet-based (iBT) Overall 80, with a minimum of 20 in each component: Reading 20; Listening 20; Speaking 20; Writing 20; OR Duolingo English Test (DET) Overall 110, minimum of 110 in Literacy and no score below 95.
