Jessica Brando
Professor
Great journalists have a number of skills, including knowing how to tell a story for the ear. Jessica built a career doing that, first with CBC Radio, and more recently as a podcast producer. She’s a full-time professor with the Broadcasting, Radio and Podcasting program, but moonlights in the Journalism program, teaching Audio Storytelling, Podcasting and Radio News classes.
Jessica hopes her classes get students excited to record interviews, edit audio and produce live radio on the campus station, CKDJ. When she’s not in the classroom, you’ll likely find her being a mom to her two teens, and doting on her pandemic-pet, Sophie the Cat.
Lana Paine
Professor
Lana Paine is a Radio Broadcasting Program Graduate and has been working in the industry ever since. She has worked in promotions, production and on-air for several radio stations, however the majority of Lana’s radio career has been in Commercial Writing both in radio stations as well as freelance work for various clients. Lana has an enthusiastic style which encourages students to dig deep for their inner creativity and bring it to life in their work. When she’s not inspiring students at Algonquin, Lana runs an internet based sound-product business and volunteers with Girl Guides of Canada. Lana is kept on her toes at home with her teenage daughter, sound-engineer husband and their rescued Border Collie.
Jessica Bilson
Professor
Jessica has been working in the radio industry for over 15 years. After graduating from Radio Broadcasting, and after a short stint at 102FM The Fox in North Bay, she started her full-time gig at myFM Radio with My Broadcasting Corporation. Working for MBC has given Jessica the opportunity to dip her toes into a pile of different departments and to work for a station that is constantly growing. She is currently the myFM Midday Host in 12 different markets across Ontario and a Senior Producer and Certified Copywriter working for all MBC stations including all myFMs, Classic Rock 107.9, Extra 90.5, Oldies 107.7, 96.7 and 100.9. Jessica is very passionate about radio and production and she loves the fact that she gets to share her passion with future broadcasters enrolled in the Radio Broadcasting Program and the Journalism Program at Algonquin College. When she’s not at work, you can find her traveling, snowboarding or golfing.
