Industry endorsements for the Mobile Application Design & Development diploma program.

I am writing this letter to lend my endorsement to the proposed Mobile Application Development Diploma program at Algonquin College. As Director of Mobile Strategy at bitHeads Inc. I have witnessed, first-hand, the rapid growth of the mobile technology field and its impact on how we conduct our own operations.

I believe that Algonquin College’s move to create a program which prepares students for a career in mobile design and development will be of great benefit to the Ottawa community. There is already demand for students with the skills that this program will teach. By the time the first class graduates, in 2014, this demand should be exponentially greater.

Hiring people with mobile design and development experience in Ottawa is a challenge. There are a lot of businesses operating in the mobile space and each is constantly on the lookout for qualified people, knowledgeable in the particular expertise of mobile development and design. It is a challenge to find people and usually it requires hiring someone away from another job … which just leaves a new opening that needs to be filled. I believe there is great demand in the Ottawa community for mobile developers and demand in many other Canadian cities as well.
