To whom is this program suitable?
This program is aimed toward high school graduates, who have already experienced instruction in computers, the Internet, basic word processing applications, and possibly a few advanced courses that include one or more of the following: design, video, programming, or animation. Adult applicants who possess a basic knowledge and aptitude of these skills are also encouraged to apply.
What will I learn?
IMD is a generalist program that teaches skills in design, photography, videography, post-production, website design, and website development. You will learn the foundations of design and user-experience, photography and videography techniques, video editing and motion graphics, front-end web development. This program also focuses on skills such as lighting, prototyping, mark-up and scripting languages, videography, solving problems, team work as well as individual work, communication, and client relations.
What software, equipment, and technology will I need?
We use Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, and opensource software for file management, design, code editing, version control, and project management. All software will be provided as part of your program, and you do not need to purchase any program in advance.
You will need to purchase a DSLR camera and a laptop. Point-and-shoot cameras are NOT acceptable. Tablets and Desktops are NOT acceptable. For more information on the specifications of the required devices please consult an instructor in the program or read the Program Required Equipment
How much homework is there in the Interactive Media Design program?
One can assume an average of 15 – 25 hours per week of work outside the classroom, with an increase towards the conclusion of each semester. This is in addition to approximately 20 hours of classroom time each week.
What does the semesters/progression look like?
The progression of IMD is: Level 1, Level 2, semester break, Level 3, Level 4. However, for those that complete coop there is an extra semester between level 3 and 4.
IMD intakes are Fall, Winter, and Spring. All intakes have the same progression but the semester you take each level differs.
- Fall intake begins at level 1, continues to level 2 in Winter, is on break for Spring/Summer, returns in Fall for level 3, continues to level 4 in Winter. For those that complete coop in Winter they would return in Spring/Summer for level 4.
- Winter intake begins at level 1, continues to level 2 in Spring/Summer, is on break for Fall, returns in Winter for level 3, continues to level 4 in Spring/Summer. For those that complete coop in Spring/Summer they would return in Fall for level 4.
- Spring/Summer intake begins at level 1, continues to level 2 in Fall, is on break for Winter, returns in Spring/Summer for level 3, continues to level 4 in Fall. For those that complete coop in Fall they would return in Winter for level 4.
Can I skip the semester break between level 2 and 3?
This break is mandatory for all students. The only reason you may be enrolled in courses during the break is to catch up on courses you failed or want to improve your mark in.
