Indigenous Pedagogy and Curriculum

Learning & Teaching Services supports teaching, learning and Indigenous-related research through various professional development opportunities, pedagogical and curricular supports, resources, and events. The supports available to faculty encourage respect for Indigenous perspectives, and foster learning and teaching practices that reflect diverse subject matters, pedagogical models, and Indigenous ways of knowing for the benefit of all learners.

Our work in LTS is a reflection of Algonquin College’s commitment to the CICan Indigenous Education Protocol. As an early signatory to the Protocol, we share a commitment to address Indigenous people’s learning needs and support self-determination and socio-economic development of Indigenous communities.

Land Acknowledgement

The work we do in Learning and Teaching Services is conducted on the traditional unceded, and unsurrendered territory of the Anishinàbe Algonquin People, and where Inuit and Métis peoples now call home. In recognizing our responsibilities, we aim to elevate the voices and work of Indigenous peoples through our events and activities, demonstrate models of Indigenous-inclusive curriculum and classrooms for faculty, and increase the capacity of faculty to build positive relationships with Indigenous students and peoples. We encourage AC staff and faculty to reflect on Algonquin College’s Land Acknowledgement and to transform these words into substantive actions.
