Wayne Lewry Says Farewell

Best known as ‘The KPI Guy’, Wayne Lewrey was seconded in 1972 to be the first Clinical Instructor at the Ottawa General Hospital for students in the third year of the Respiratory Technology program transferred to Algonquin College in 1970.

Hospital trained, university educated and college employed for 45 years, Wayne began full-time employment at Algonquin in 1975 in a variety of roles including new program development, CE coordination and Chair of Allied Health programs at the Rideau Campus.

In 1989, Wayne moved to the Planning Department to establish and organize large-scale surveys such as course assessment, Key Performance Indicator surveys, First Year and CE Student surveys. Assuming the role of Institutional Research, Wayne was involved in the development of Strategic Plans for the Academic sector as well as the College, the production of the College’s Annual Reports and Multi- Year Accountability Agreements for the Ministry, the development and measurement of performance indicators, program quality assessment, business re-engineering and return on investment studies.

On behalf of the International Education Centre, Wayne undertook 17 extended trips overseas to China, Africa, India and the Caribbean, spending more than a year living abroad since 1994 providing project management and technical assistance to overseas partners.

For the past 15 years, Wayne has been an ‘aging rock star’, one of 4 members of Divided Highway, all of whom were employed by Algonquin. A frequent presence at many College events in the past, Divided Highway currently has a busy gig schedule at bars, benefits, private parties and weddings in the local area.

Upon retirement in March, 2013, Wayne is encouraged by the efforts Algonquin has made to connect to students (on-campus, on-site and on-line) and provide the applied experiential learning needed for the occupations and industries that underpin our local, provincial, national and international economy.
