Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL): Information for International Students

IMPORTANT: New Accepted Students who have not yet submitted their Study Permit Application and Provincial Attestation Letters (PAL)

A new requirement has been established for anyone who submits their study permit application after January 22, 2024. After this date, all applications for study permits must be supported by a Provincial Attestation Letter, or PAL, from the Provincial government.

  1. Algonquin College makes the requests for PALs to the government on behalf of students.
  2. The document is uploaded to the application portal once the tuition fees (as indicated on the Offer Letter) are received.

Let us know on the portal (or ask your agent if you have one) if you are still waiting for your PAL to start your study permit application process.

How long is a PAL valid for?

Your PAL needs to be valid when IRCC receives it with your study permit application. Unless your PAL has an expiry date on it, it is valid until January 21, 2025. You can resubmit a study permit application with the same PAL if the PAL is still valid.
