About

The Information Security Unit (ISU), a team within Information Technology Services (ITS), is responsible for identifying, assessing, and assisting in the management of security and privacy risks to Algonquin College information and information systems.


The ISU Mission is to:

  • Help protect information in all forms it is created, transmitted, and stored. This includes but is not limited to information within enterprise systems, internal and external networks, telephony systems, computers, mobile devices, digital lab equipment, faxes, copiers and building control systems.
  • Assist Algonquin College departments with the implementation of technological security and privacy controls that proactively address unacceptable risks related to the unauthorized access, use, modification, duplication, diversion, disclosure, or destruction of information and information systems.
  • Develop requirements that apply to the entire organization as well as to external information systems in which Algonquin College participates. These include but are not limited to the creation of information security related policies, standards, guidelines, procedures and awareness material.
  • Undertake investigations of cyber security incidents.

The Information Security Unit Vision is to:

  • Create a security-aware College that proactively manages the security and privacy of information and systems commensurate with their value and within an acceptable level of risk; and
  • Support the College in becoming a global leader in digitally connected applied education and learning, through the application of security enabling technology.
