Presentation Description:
The personal information (“PI”) of youth, by its nature, carries an increased level of sensitivity. Organizations’ collection, use and disclosure of this PI has for some time been a matter of focus for data protection regulators, including the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (“OPC”).
In this session, we will provide an overview of the OPC’s work in the area of youth privacy, including major investigations, proactive research (including the 2015 GPEN Privacy Sweep on youth-focused apps and websites), and educational initiatives. We will also describe the resources available to kids, parents, and teachers, as well as to organizations which collect the personal information of youth.
