Jim Johnston is Director, Environmental Sustainability and Compliance at BMO Financial Group.  In this role, Jim is responsible for the development and coordination of BMO Financial Group’s environmental sustainability and compliance management practices, focusing specifically on BMO’s operational environmental impacts.

He has responsibility for the design, implementation and maintenance of a sustainable enterprise-wide Environmental Management System (EMS), to reduce the direct impact of BMO Financial Group’s footprint on the environment, raise sustainability awareness within the organization and contribute to productivity savings at the enterprise level.  Jim also contributes subject matter expertise in developing, implementing and supporting the Bank’s sustainable procurement practices.

Jim has been in his current role with BMO Financial Group for 4 1/2 years and with the company for 33 years.  Prior to assuming this role, Jim worked in a wide variety of positions in the retail banking, technology, operations and corporate areas.  Jim is a Certified General Accountant and earned a bachelor’s degree in commerce from the University of Toronto.
