Information on Coverage for Over-Age Dependents

If you have an over-age dependent who is college or university-bound, you can help prepare him or her by ensuring that your child is still covered under your group insurance benefits.

Employee records for over-age dependents must be updated to ensure that these dependents meet the eligibility criteria for coverage under the group insurance plans for the next academic year. Proof of Student Status is Required for dependents 21 and over attending college or university on a full-time basis. The College Employer Council and Sun Life request letters from the Registrar of the Educational Institution the student is attending stating their current student status.

Please note: Timetables and Financial statements are unacceptable as proof of Student Status. Forward Proof of Student Status to Human Resources Room C426 prior to your dependent’s 21st birthday to avoid denied claims. Proof of Student Status is required each semester in order to remain on the Sun Life Benefit Plan. Please advise Human Resources if your child is no longer in College or University and is over 21 as they are not eligible to remain on the plan.
