Coronavirus Resources Website

We take the health and safety of our College community very seriously. With ongoing global and emerging local concerns over the coronavirus (COVID-19), we have launched a new resources webpage for the Algonquin College community.

The site includes the latest information, prevention tips, an FAQ covering common questions students and employees might have, and links to key resources such as Ottawa Public Health, the Ontario Ministry of Health, Public Health Ontario and the Public Health Agency of Canada.

If you have additional questions about the coronavirus not answered in the FAQ, please send them to algcomms@algonquincollege.com or submit them via this submission form.

A cross-college coordination committee has also been established to advise on issues and activities related to the coronavirus. Read more about the committee and its membership here.

Algonquin College’s Psychological Health & Safety Taskforce has launched the Guarding Minds at Work Survey. This unique survey is designed to assess, protect and promote psychological health and safety in the workplace. A psychologically healthy and safe workplace is one that promotes mental health and makes sure employees have the appropriate tools and resources available to them.

As part of our college-wide review of our workplace psychological health and safety, we are asking all Algonquin College employees to complete this survey by March 3, 2020. Employee input is a critical component of this review to help us identify strengths and weaknesses and to gather ideas for creating and recommending solutions. This survey contains questions about common work experiences. The questions cover a range of topics including work responsibilities, work relationships, and leadership. The survey is anonymous and will take less than 10 minutes for you to complete.

If you are interested in obtaining more information about Guarding Minds@Work or prefer to access the survey through the Human Resources wellness website, please go to https://www.algonquincollege.com/wellness/survey/

Please do not hesitate to contact Sarah Gauen at gauens@algonquincollege.com, Connie Powers at powersc@algonquincollege.com, Paul Lahaise at lahaisp@algonquincollege.com or JP Lamarche at lamarcj1@algonquincollege.com if you have any questions.

The organization and survey are endorsed by our ITS Cyber Security Unit for use with our employees. Should you have any questions or concerns in this regard, please contact Craig Delmage at delmagc@algonquincollege.com.

Employee Engagement Survey Results!

Close to 200 employees attended Wednesday’s Town Hall while many more watched via livestream at the Perth and Pembroke campuses to learn the results of the 2019 Employee Engagement Survey.

Highlights from his presentation include:

  • One of the things employees like most about working at Algonquin College is the people.
  • People are more engaged with their jobs than with their departments and the organization, with the exception of Support Staff. Of the three employee groups, Support Staff are the most highly engaged with the organization.
  • Overall score for engagement is 68. 3 per cent, which according to Yardley, “is something to be proud of.”
  • Co-worker relations are very strong.

Areas for improvement include:

  • Training Opportunities – organizational level
  • Hiring Practices – organizational level.

“I can tell you, Algonquin College people have an opinion. They’re not sitting in neutral,” said Yardley as he wrapped up his presentation. Judging by the laugher from those in attendance, it was an accurate statement.

For anyone who could not attend the Town Hall, you can view the live stream online at www.algonquincollege.com/live

The complete survey results are available on the employee engagement website.

2019 T4 Slips

2019 T4 Slips Available Now for Printing/Viewing in Workday

The payroll department has completed the preparation of 2019 T4 slips. As was previously announced, employees may now view and print their T4 slips directly from Workday. Detailed instructions on how to view and print your T4 are provided below.

Please note that some employees will receive more than one T4 slip from the College. This will occur for one of the two following reasons:

  1. During 2019, you worked as both an hourly and a salaried employee. In this case, you will receive a T4 for your hourly employment earnings as well as a T4 for your salary employment earnings.
  2. During 2019, two or more employee IDs were created for you and you received earnings under multiple employee IDs. In this case you will receive a T4 slip with the earnings from each employee ID.

Regardless of the reason, if you receive more than one T4 slip from the College, you must report all T4 slips when preparing your 2019 tax return.

If you wish to access your T4 slip from off campus, you will require Remote Access (VPN) to be able to connect to Workday. If you do not already have VPN access, please click the link below for self-serve setup instructions:

VPN Setup Instructions

If you have any problems setting up your VPN, please feel free to call 1-866-921-5763 Monday to Friday within the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Paper copies of T4 slips will be mailed out to employees who, as of February 20, 2020, are on leave or are no longer employed at Algonquin College.
