Lunchtime Yoga
Students and employees are invited to take part in free yoga on campus. Mats, blocks, and straps will be provided, or you can bring your own. No experience necessary.
AC Purple Couch
The AC Purple Couch™ promotes mental health awareness among students and presents valuable mental health resources to support students and foster success throughout their college experience.
Nutrition 101
Join Health Services as we go through the Canadian Nutrition Guidelines, details about macronutrients (carbohydrate, protein, and fat), how to really understand the dreaded nutritional label and bust some common myths about health, nutrition, and popular diets. You will come away with plenty of tips and tools to improve your nutrition and overall health in addition to where to get support when you get stuck.
Fitness & Physical Activity 101
Join Health Services learn the basics about fitness. We will cover all the terms you need to know, give you tips on how to incorporate fitness in your busy student life, and share the message, “health at every size”. Not sure if this event is for you? Well, attendees will also receive a physical activity kit with useful equipment to help you move your body. We will even go through worksheets and resources to help you develop your unique fitness routine and help you reach your long-term goals.
Health & Resiliency 101
Health Services want to help you build resiliency, not only mentally, but the physical fortitude required to succeed. We will teach you practical skills, which you can implement throughout the Reading Week, allowing you to return better than ever and ready for the final half of the semester. Our student health promoters and placement students will also provide their own tips on how they make it through this tough portion of the year.
Wellness Workshop – International Student Perspective
Learn the fundamentals of physical and mental wellness, in addition to how to maintain optimal wellness, even through the most stressful times. You will learn tips and tricks to nutrition, fitness, sleep, social support, and stress reduction, all to build resiliency during your academic career. We will also touch on the unique experiences and difficulties international students may face as you strive to learn in an entirely new environment.
Knit ‘n’ Knatter
Knit ‘n’ Knatter is a mental health/wellness knitting group that takes place once a week in the Spiritual Centre. This fun event provides an opportunity to socialize while learning a new skill that also has health benefits.
Nutrition Around the World
Nutrition and taste finally put away their differences! Encouraging healthy eating, active living and health promotion, join Health Services in partnership with Food Services to travel around the world virtually and enjoy cooking with Algonquin College Executive Chef Russell Weir. Steep & Sleep
Join Health Services as we discuss the science behind sleep, distinct types of acute insomnia common to students (onset and maintenance insomnia), and numerous ways to increase your sleep hygiene, all while sipping a fantastic cup of tea. We even provide you with a sleep log spreadsheet and a step-by-step guide to track and improve their quality of sleep and sleep efficiency.
Sexuality & Self Love
Are you interested in sexual health but don’t know where to start? Are you learning more about your sexuality and still have questions? Are you uncertain about how to build healthy relationships? Well Health Services and Project Lighthouse, featuring AC’s Sexologist, Sarah Crawford, are here to help! Join us as we discuss the basics of sexual health and wellness, how to maintain healthy intimate partnerships, and answer YOUR questions about sex and sexuality.
