Success Stories and Testimonials

“I chose this program as it has an excellent reputation in the field and a high success rate on the NDHCE. It also has dedicated administration staff that work hard to secure clients for you during practicum.

This program thoroughly prepares you for the board exam, and challenges you to grow as you navigate through the program. It has excellent staff that offer invaluable guidance and mentorship.

The advice I would give to anyone considering this program is that everything you learn from day one is important. Come into the program ready to learn, accept the things you can’t control, and understand that everyone is trying their best.”

“I chose this program to expand on my understanding of the dental field and the impact oral health can have on individuals and communities. I was very impressed by how well the program was organized, and it allowed me to build on previous knowledge as the program progressed.

The main highlight for me during my time at Algonquin College was having access to a well equipped clinic to learn in. I had access to all possible equipment necessary for client care. I thoroughly enjoyed working with community members during various placements to showcase my newly learned skillset and provide quality care to those in need.

Currently, I am awaiting my registration as a Dental Hygienist after successfully completing the National Dental Hygiene Certification Exam. Once registered I will be working at a local Ottawa dental office, supporting my local community. My position will involve working with the public to treat and prevent oral health diseases. Algonquin College provided all the necessary training and assessments, ensuring I am confident in fulfilling the requirements of my position. Since completing this program, I am proud to have secured a position at a local dental office where my peers value my opinions and qualifications as a healthcare provider.

Overall, Algonquin College has equipped me with the essential knowledge and skills required to perform confidently as a healthcare professional. The advice I would give to anyone considering this program is don’t hesitate! This was an amazing program. Be prepared to work hard to achieve a lifelong career.
If I could describe my experience in one word at Algonquin College it would be: Empowering”

Work Integrated Learning

You will practice in a fully equipped Dental Clinic on campus to provide on-site client care services to the community, under the direct supervision of registered dental hygienists and dentists. This is one of the only programs in Canada that provides you with clients and receptionists that confirm reservations, allowing you to focus on your education.

You will also use your skills in the community, providing free preventative oral care for the street youth of Ottawa, participating in community health fairs, and promoting health activities with various high risk community groups. You will also organize an Annual Fun Run/Walk with proceeds alternating between the dental departments of the Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus and the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario.
