FAQ
Which Pre-Health Sciences Pathway program should I take if I’m interested in possibly pursuing further studies in a diploma or degree program?
To keep your options open to college certificate, diploma, and advanced diploma health programs, as well as university level programs, it is recommended to take the Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees program.
I think I have applied to the wrong Pre-Health Sciences Pathway program. What should I do?
At Algonquin, both the Pre-Health Sciences Pathway programs have been designed so that all of the courses in the first semester are the same. This will allow for you to change your pathway in the second semester so that it best fits your future educational goals. So, if you think you may have applied to the wrong Pre-Health Sciences Pathway program for your needs, you will have the option to change programs in the second semester and still be on track to graduate.
What are the admission requirements for the Pre-Health Sciences Pathway programs?
The admission requirements are the same for both the Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Certificates and Diplomas and the Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees: Grade 12 English (ENG4C or equivalent) with a 65% or higher, and Grade 11 Mathematics (MBF3C or equivalent) with a grade of 60% or higher.
Do the Pre-Health Sciences Pathway programs offer a January start and/or an online option?
No. At this time, both Pre-Health Sciences Pathway programs are only available as full time programs starting in September each year. Both programs are offered at the Woodroffe campus and at the Pembroke campus. Interested persons are encouraged to apply by the February 1st Equal Consideration deadline via www.ontariocolleges.ca.
Will taking the Pre-Health Sciences Pathway programs allow me to apply to other health-related programs at other colleges and universities outside of Ottawa?
Yes, however final admission to any program is at the discretion of the receiving institution. Many colleges and universities in Ontario will recognize the programs as meeting or exceeding admission requirements for various programs. Contact the college or university of interest’s Admissions Office for further information.
