The Honours Bachelor of Science in Nursing Bridging Pathway program is a collaborative program between Algonquin College and the University of Ottawa. This program is designed for Registered Practical Nurses with a Diploma from an Ontario College who meet the specified program requirements and who wish to upgrade their education to become a degree-prepared Registered Nurse.
In this program, you will experience classroom, laboratory, and clinical learning in a variety of settings. Key program outcomes include developing critical thinking and communication skills, as you work towards becoming a professional Registered Nurse who contributes crucial skills as part of a healthcare team.
This is a six-semester program offered in collaboration with the University of Ottawa. In the first two semesters, students will take six pre-determined courses, then complete the third and fourth years of the degree program (two semesters per year, four semesters total). This program is available at the Algonquin College Ottawa - Woodroffe and Pembroke Campuses.
Successful students will graduate from the University of Ottawa with an Honours Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
Those studying at Algonquin College Ottawa-Woodroffe campus will split their first six courses between the University of Ottawa and Ottawa-Woodroffe campuses and complete year 3 and year 4 courses at the Algonquin College Ottawa - Woodroffe campus. Those studying at the Algonquin College Pembroke campus will take all their courses in Pembroke throughout the program.
Regardless of the location chosen, all successful students graduate with a BScN from the University of Ottawa. Graduates are eligible to write the NCLEX to become a Registered Nurse in Canada. As a graduate, you can contribute to the development of nursing as an art and science. Following graduation, you may pursue graduate studies.
BScN graduates are in high demand and may work in hospitals, community health agencies, long-term care facilities, private practice, and a variety of other settings across Canada and around the world.

Programs at Algonquin College are delivered using a variety of instruction modes. Courses may be offered in the classroom or lab, entirely online, or in a hybrid mode which combines classroom sessions with virtual learning activities. Additional Information
Program Resources
All applicants must attend an information session within 6 months prior to the application deadline, meet the program eligibility requirements and submit the following:
- a completed program application form;
- an official transcript from PN Ontario College Diploma program, or equivalent;
- official transcripts from all Canadian and international post-secondary education: (SBI4U - 65% minimum grade; SCH4U - 65% minimum grade; MCF3M or any 4U math - 65% minimum grade);*
- transcripts to provide evidence of high school pre-requisite completion;
- proof of current registration as a RPN (in Ontario);
- proof of employment status as a Diploma RPN;
- proof of 900 hours of practice at the RPN scope of practice; and
- admission essay (personal statement) outlining how the applicant has demonstrated full scope of practice as per College of Nurses of Ontario-Entry to Practice Competencies for Registered Practical Nurses.
Applications for Winter term admission received by October 1st will be given equal consideration. Applications received after October 1st will be processed on a first-come first-served basis as long as places are available.
* Graduates of the Algonquin College pre-nursing program are given equivalence to all three pre-requisites provided they achieve the minimum averages (as noted above).
