OVERVIEW: Preceptor Education >> Module Two >> Student-Centred Model

One of the goals of education is to enable learners to become more autonomous independent learners. To achieve this, we must shift our focus from teaching to facilitating and promote the concepts of ownership and self-reflection. This creates an avenue for lifelong learning which produces a professional equipped with the learning skills necessary to adapt and meet the changing needs of the patient and profession. This is best obtained through the learning cycle and a second method called the Learning-Centred Model or student-centered learning. It is comprised of learners, learning outcomes, teaching activities to promote learning outcomes, assessment of desired learning outcomes, and evaluation.
