What is the start date for this program?
The new intake for this program will start August 15th.

Who is best suited for this program?
This program is well-suited for those who enjoy the challenges of working with individuals of all ages and cultural background, possess good communication and interpersonal skills, possess the ability to handle physically and emotionally demanding situations, have basic computer skills and strong time management and organizational skills, possess skills to work with other as a member of a team, and are willing to meet the needs of our aging population.

Do you have to pay any fees for this program?
A $2000 tuition bursary will be issued to your account for each semester to pay for tuition and ancillary fees. There are additional funds available to cover books and supplies, up to a maximum of $1500. You will be required to incur costs of approximately $500-600 for a uniform, shoes, as well as First Aid/CPR, Vulnerable Sector Check and Paramed related fees.

Is this program OSAP eligible?
Yes, the PSW-accelerated program is OSAP eligible. Students are required to complete an OSAP application for assessment and funding eligibility. Students must declare the funding support they will receive in their OSAP application. If you have any questions, please visit our Financial Aid and Student Awards page.

What are the hours for classes?
Classes can be scheduled anytime between 8:00 am and 9:00 pm, approximately 7 hours a day.

Where will you complete your volunteer experience?
Volunteer experience is an option for students if they have completed all pre-placement requirements such as Police Record Check, immunizations and CPR. Students will have an opportunity to potentially start shadowing in their placement sites prior to engaging in their paid placement.

Where will you complete your paid clinical placements?
The majority of clinical placements will be hosted in Ottawa and the surrounding area. Should students wish to have a placement outside of this catchment area, efforts will be made to support students in their home communities, although clinical placements outside of Ottawa and the surrounding area are not guaranteed. A stipend for placement will be paid at $19.00/hr. The stipend will be paid after week 4 and upon completion of hours.
