How to Register

Go to the Course Offerings page to explore the General Education electives, the Spring Reach Back/Ahead General Education electives and Degree Breadth electives offered in the Spring 2025 term.

Once you have paid or deferred your tuition fees, you can log onto ACSIS and click on the “Gen. Ed. Or Program Electives” button to see if you have to take an elective next term. If you do, you will also see the electives that are available to you.

NOTE: AC Online Students must select their General Elective courses by visiting AC Online and completing the AC Online General Elective Selection Form. Please do not make your selection on the ACSIS Student Portal.

Steps for Registering into a 15 week General Education or Degree Breadth Elective

There are three time periods during which you register in an elective. The earlier you make your selection or register, the better your opportunity to get the elective you want. The three ways are:

Option 1: Course Selection Period – February 22nd – March 30th, 2025

When you have paid your tuition fee, go to ACSIS to select your General Education elective or Degree Breadth elective using the “Gen. Ed. or Program Electives” button. The Selection period ends on March 30th, 2025 so that the Registrar’s Office can complete a number of registration functions for you including registering you in the elective you have selected.

Option 2: Course Registration Period – April 7th – May 5th, 2025

When you have received your timetable, go to ACSIS to register in a General Education elective or Degree Breadth elective using the Drop/Add/Transfer function.

Option 3: Late Registration – May 6th – May 16th, 2025

Please contact your School’s General Education Representative for assistance with late registration (after Day 1 of the term).

Helpful Hints

  1. Explore the General Education elective or Degree Breadth elective options being offered this term on the Course Offerings page. Note that not all courses are available to all programs. Check ACSIS for those options available within your program.
  2. You are required to pay or defer your tuition fees before you select or register in an elective. For more information about the tuition deposit, fees and payment options, click here or contact the Registrar’s Office.
  3. If you are deferring your fees, go to ACSIS and select “Fee Deferment Appl.” Once your fee deferral has been approved, you will be able to select your General Education elective or Degree Breadth elective for the next term.
  4. For assistance, please see your General Education Representative, Student Success Specialist or Program Coordinator.

Other Options

  1. Exemptions: If you have received an exemption for your General Education elective or Degree Breadth elective, you do not need to make a selection or register.
  2. Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR): provides college course credits by recognizing relevant learning acquired through paid employment, community work, independent study, on the-job training, volunteering and travel and leisure activities. If you have work and life experience that align with Algonquin course learning requirements, you could be eligible to receive course credits based on those experiences.

Reach Back/Ahead – General Education Electives available in Spring!

Steps for Registering into a 7 week Reach Back/Ahead Genernal Education elective

What is a Reach Back/Ahead General Education Elective?

These are spring General Electives courses that are compressed into a 7 week delivery as opposed to the standard 14 weeks. Priority for registration is given to students who are in the final term of their program but are missing their GenEd program requirement(s).

If, after Day 1 of the spring term, any seats remain in the compressed GenEd courses, students who want to reach ahead in their program to take their GenEd early can request registration.

All learners must contact their program’s GenEd representative in order to discuss this option and request registration – learners CANNOT register for these offerings directly through ACSIS.

Step 1: Determine the General Education/Degree Breadth Requirements for Your Program

Consult your Program Coordinator, your school General Education Representative or your Student Success Specialist to determine the General Education requirements for your program based on your program version (start date) and level.

Step 2: Request Registration into a Reach Back/Ahead Elective

The dates for Reach Back/Ahead General Education Elective registrations are between April 7th – May 5th, 2025.

If you are attending school on a full-time basis for the Spring 2025 term, you may register in a Reach Back/Ahead General Education Elective Breadth Elective over and above your regular program of study course load with departmental permission. Please speak to your school General Education Representative to help you obtain this permission. Regular tuition fees for this additional course will apply.

If you are not attending school on a full-time basis this term, you may register in a General Education Online Elective with departmental permission. Please speak to your school General Education Representative to help you obtain this permission. You must register as a part-time student at the Registrar’s Office. Regular part-time fees apply.
