Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR)
Algonquin College values the experience and knowledge students bring with them on their academic journey. PLAR provides an easy and convenient way to apply previous work and life experience to gain college credits. Through Algonquin’s Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition service (PLAR), you may be able to receive General Education course credits. PLAR provides college course credits by recognizing relevant learning acquired through paid employment, community work, independent study, on-the-job training, volunteering, and even travel and leisure activities.
If you have work and life experience that align with Algonquin course learning requirements, you could be eligible to receive course credits based on those experiences. Course credits provided through PLAR appear on your transcript towards your college credentials. If you are interested and would like further information on Algonquin’s PLAR service, please go to https://www.algonquincollege.com/plar
