Some awards have an application process. For those with an application, details on the application and submission deadline can be found in the Award description. The selection is completed by the Academic Departments in recognition of academic excellence and extracurricular activities, such as volunteerism and leadership.
*Additional award criteria may apply.


Alumni Association Award

Awarded to a graduate who exemplifies the greatest concern for the Algonquin College community while at the College.

Amad Family Scholarship

Awarded to a student in any full-time program at the Pembroke Campus with a high GPA and during their last semester of graduating year. Special consideration given to military members, partners of military members or children of military members.

Annual Award for Excellence

Awarded by the College to a graduating student who has combined outstanding scholastic achievement with demonstrated leadership ability and community participation.

Community Futures Development Corporation Scholarship

Available to one student registered in a full-time program at the Algonquin College in the Ottawa Valley – Pembroke Campus. The recipient will be pursuing a career in entrepreneurship and business in Renfrew County, as well as good academic progress.

The Hazel Smart-Patterson Environmental Scholarships

Awarded annually to two (2) students in any of the following programs* with a GPA of 3.6+

  • Environmental Management and Assessment Certificate Program
  • Environmental Technician Program
  • Business – Agriculture Program

Peter Mansbridge Convocation Award

Awarded to a graduate student enrolled at Algonquin College’s Pembroke Campus who maintains a high academic standing and who demonstrates an outstanding commitment to community causes or initiatives.

Women’s Initiative Network Award

Awarded annually to a woman entering the 2nd semester of a post-secondary program after being absent from formal studies or the workforce for several years. The award will be granted to the applicant who has demonstrated academic promise.

Dean-Sinclair Chartered Professional Accountants Award

Awarded to the graduate of the Business program who has achieved the highest level of proficiency in accounting and small business finance.

Don Sutherland Memorial Entrepreneurship Award

Awarded to a Pembroke Campus student who best exemplifies the ideals of entrepreneurship by starting and successfully managing one or more businesses in a way that demonstrates notable entrepreneurial characteristics and achievements while practicing Algonquin College values in the workplace and in their lives.

Frances Lemke Insurance Services Limited Award

Awarded to the graduate of the Business program who has achieved the highest academic standing throughout the program.

Marketing Management Award

Awarded to a graduating student in the Business program who achieves excellence in business management principles and in the development of a comprehensive business plan.

Computer Systems Technician Program

The OACETT Award (The Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists)

Awarded to the graduating student of the Computer Systems Technician program who has demonstrated a professional attitude toward theory and practice.

Construction Techniques Program

RONA Pembroke Award

Awarded to the graduate in the Construction Techniques program who has demonstrated exceptional combined practical and academic skills and abilities in the program.

Forestry Technician Program

Algonquin Section of the Canadian Institute of Forestry Award

Awarded to the student who has the highest academic standing at the end of the 1st semester of the Forestry Technician program.

Canadian Institute of Forestry Gold Medal Award

Awarded annually to a graduating student of the Forestry Technician program for outstanding scholarship, sportsmanship, and citizenship throughout the program.

Janeta Neilson and Frank Knaapen Scholarship

Awarded to students in the Forestry Technician program at the Pembroke Campus with a high GPA.

Jill and Hugh Schooley Scholarship

The Jill and Hugh Schooley Scholarship will be given to one student enrolled in the Forestry Technician program at the Pembroke Campus, who has successfully completed the first term of the program, has a GPA of 3. 6 or above and has demonstrated financial need.

Keith Harold Wright Memorial Award

Awarded to a Forestry Technician graduate who has been exemplary in his/her safe work habits, including knowledge and abilities in fire control and forestry equipment, and has demonstrated a potential for leadership in the field and classroom.

Kiwanis Awards

Awarded to a graduating student of the Forestry Technician program who has demonstrated excellence in academic achievement.

Grace Whitmore Scholarship

Awarded to a student in the Forestry Technician program at the Pembroke Campus upon completion of level 2 with a high GPA.

Renfrew County Chapter of Ontario Woodlot Association Award

The Renfrew County Chapter of Ontario Woodlot Association Award has been established for one student enrolled in the Forestry Technician program.
The student award recipient selected will demonstrate a commitment to leadership and community involvement in the Forestry industry.

The Dr. D. A. Fraser Award

Awarded to the graduate who has the highest aggregate standing in Dendrology and Silviculture in the Forestry Technician program.

The Forest Products Association of Canada Award

The Forest Products Association of Canada Award has been established for one student enrolled in the Forestry Technician program.

The student recipient selected will demonstrate a commitment to leadership and community involvement in the Forestry industry.

Motive Power Technician Program

Darwin Wendover Memorial Award

Awarded to the graduate of the Motive Power Technician program who, in the opinion of the faculty, has achieved the highest academic standing.

NAPA Auto Parts Award

Awarded to a graduate of the Motive Power Technician program who has demonstrated significant improvement in the areas of academic and practical achievement through the combination of hard work, commitment and perseverance.

Office Administration – Executive Program

Scott Rosien & Locke Chartered Professional Accountants Award

Awarded to the outstanding student in Accounting in the Office Administration – Executive program.

Outdoor Adventure and Outdoor Adventure Naturalist Programs

Outdoor Adventure Naturalist/ Outdoor Adventure Program Awards

Awarded to the graduates of the Outdoor Adventure and Outdoor Adventure Naturalist programs who have combined outstanding academic achievement with demonstrated leadership ability and communication skills.

Wilderness Tours Awards of Excellence

Awarded to graduates of the Outdoor Adventure Naturalist and Outdoor Adventure programs who have demonstrated outstanding proficiency and leadership in the practical skills component of their program.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing Awards

General Proficiency Award for Nursing

This gold pin is presented to a graduating Bachelor of Science in Nursing student who has consistently demonstrated high academic achievement and who has provided efficient and conscientious clinical nursing care.

Lois Cahill Memorial Award

Awarded to a graduating Bachelor of Science in Nursing student who has demonstrated excellence in clinical practice, the ability to work effectively as a team member, and who has been supportive of other students during the program.

Early Childhood Education Program

Children’s Garden Nursery Literary Award

Awarded to the graduate of the Early Childhood Education program, selected by his or her peers, who has demonstrated an appreciation for children’s literature and has shared insights about the value of literature.

Renfrew County Early Childhood Education Program Directors Award

Awarded to a graduate of the Early Childhood Education program, selected by his or her peers, who has demonstrated an exemplary sense of compassion towards children and their families, co-workers and other professionals in the community.

Wise Owl Day Care Award

Awarded to the graduate of the Early Childhood Education program, selected by his or her peers, who has exemplified professionalism. He or she has done so by maintaining confidentiality, accepting children, families, peers and staff in a non-judgmental manner, and having a genuine respect for uniqueness of families and individuals.

Personal Support Worker Program

Personal Support Worker Award

Awarded to a graduate of the Personal Support Worker program who has demonstrated a high level of academic and clinical achievement.

Pat Hearn Award of Excellence in Palliative Care

Awarded to a student in the Personal Support Worker program who shows a strong compassion for palliative care.

Police Foundations Program

MD Charlton Company Award

Awarded to a second year student enrolled full-time in the Police Foundations program (Ottawa, Perth, Pembroke campus), who exemplifies leadership and community involvement.

Police Foundations Program Award

Awarded to a graduate of the Police Foundations program who has demonstrated the most improvement in the areas of personal health and fitness, academic studies and community service commitment over the four semesters of the program.

Roy C. Reiche Award

Awarded to an honours graduate of the Police Foundations program who has achieved the highest academic standing over the four semesters of the program.

The TestReadyPro Police Recruit Candidate of the Year Award

Awarded to the student who best exemplifies and demonstrates excellence in the following categories: academic achievement, dedication to career pursuit, volunteerism, leadership potential and overall outstanding candidate potential.

Practical Nursing Program

Dr. L. G. Reid Scholarship

Presented to a practical nursing student entering the 2nd year of the Practical Nursing program. The student, selected by the faculty, shall have demonstrated a high level of clinical and academic performance as well as financial need.

L.A. Nienkirchen Award

Presented annually at graduation to a Practical Nursing graduate who has demonstrated an interest in caring for older adults in the community as well as a strong academic record.

RPNAO Award for Student Excellence

Presented to a graduate of the Practical Nursing program who demonstrates strong leadership ability, excellent academic practice, professional and personal growth, and an understanding of supporting their professional affiliation.

Radiation Safety Program

The Canadian Nuclear Society Scholarship

Awarded to a student who is a member of the Canadian Nuclear Society and whose marks are within the top 20 percent of the class. In addition, the student demonstrates an eagerness to learn about the diversity of the nuclear field, can educate the public on the benefits and safety of nuclear science and technology, and will help promote a responsible attitude towards health, safety and the environment while working in the nuclear industry. The award will be granted to a student who participates actively in class, demonstrates technical interest, possesses a superior ability in radiation protection and exhibits excellent leadership and teamwork skills.

Radiation Safety Advisory Committee Award

Two Radiation Safety Advisory Committee Awards are presented: one award to a student who achieves the highest score in the final comprehensive performance evaluation and one award to a student who has exhibited the most noticeable growth in his or her academic progress, attitude, and overall understanding in the Radiation Safety program.

Social Service Worker Program

The Cathy Perry Memorial Award

Awarded to a graduate of the Social Service Worker program who best demonstrated fairness, cooperation and helpfulness in the interaction with others.

W.T. “Eldon” Craig Memorial Award

This award is presented to the most outstanding graduate of the Social Service Worker program.
