Algonquin College Responds to OHRC Request on Actions to Address Systemic Discrimination

April 30, 2021

On April 14th, the Ontario Human Right Commission issued a letter to all Colleges and Universities reminding them that “Your institutions have the duty to create safe and inclusive places to study, and to remove systemic barriers to participation. To this end, I am writing to ask that you identify what actions your administrations are taking to provide equitable and inclusive learning environments, including your efforts to investigate discrimination and harassment in a timely and effective way.”

Algonquin College is pleased to publicly share our response on the efforts being made as the College is an institution that prides itself on four fundamental values: Caring, Learning, Integrity and Respect. Algonquin College values both the dignity and uniqueness of the individual, and equity and diversity in our community. Holding true to this core value, our 2017-2020 People Plan reinforces Human Resources’ role and commitment, with a particular goal to “build a learning workplace that is respectful, diverse, inclusive and healthy.” Read the full response here: OHRC response from Algonquin College

Successful 1st Time Participating in the Capital Pride Parade

August 26, 2018

AC at the Capital Pride Parade

Algonquin College’s green fire truck sported some new shades on Sunday as Algonquin College marched in the Capital Pride Parade.

Close to 40 members of the College community marched behind the truck, which sported the rainbow colours of Capital Pride 2018. Before the event kicked off, Mayor Jim Watson and Ottawa West-Nepean MP Anita Vandenbeld stopped by to offer encouragement and support to the Algonquin parade team.

“So happy to stop by and greet @AlgonquinSA students marching in the #CapitalPride2018 parade!” Vandenbeld commented on Twitter. “They even painted their fire engine!”

The College’s Pride marchers were led by an Indigenous dancer, who followed closely behind the truck for the nearly two-hour downtown parade route.
