Adoption Coordinators
Getting Started
The Steps
-
What are Course Materials? For our purposes, the term ‘course materials’ encompasses any item that the student should have to participate in their courses that will need to be purchased. This would include the obvious like their textbooks or course packs (manuals), but it can also be software; kits; special paper or pens; clickers or just about anything else you can think of.
-
Find the right materials: For the most part, Course Material Services is not involved in this step, however, when an Instructor or Coordinator is looking for materials on a subject without something specific in mind, then we can still be of service. We can:
-
Compile a list of titles on a subject from various Publishers.
-
Put you in contact with Sales Representatives from appropriate Publishers
-
Get pricing/availability information to compare books.
-
-
Submit your requisitions before the Deadlines: We cannot guarantee that late orders will be in stock for the start of classes. Please supply as much information as possible to ensure the correct materials are received.
What is the timeline for course material adoption?
The deadline for the submission of adoptions for each term is as follows:
- Spring Adoption Deadline: March 15
- Fall Adoption Deadline: June 3
- Winter Adoption Deadline: October 15
What formats can I adopt?
What about bundled resources?
How does Course Material Services know how many copies to purchase?
My resource was included in student fees. How do you know the sell-through rate?
What information is needed to complete an adoption?
-
Communicate the importance of adopted materials to your students. You can ask your publisher’s Sales Representative if they will visit your class to explain the advantages of their resources.
-
Keep Course Material Services apprised of any enrolment changes or other relevant information. Class size increases are the primary cause for insufficient quantities of a resource being available. Also, let us know if your course has a start date that differs from the College’s standard term start date.
-
Stay Informed. Check on the status of your textbook order through the Campus Store website one month prior to classes to alleviate issues at the start of term.
Working together, and keeping in mind these simple points, we can ensure that every one of your students who want to purchase their Course Materials can.
