We offer short-term therapeutic support for issues such as:
- Symptoms of anxiety or depression
- Stress
- Relationships
- Academic distress
- Career planning and program choice
- Study skills support for procrastination, time management, group work, exam preparation, and presentations
- Trauma
- Grief
- Self-harming behaviours and suicidal thoughts
- Addictions
- Self-esteem
- Assertiveness training
- Transition and change
- Sexuality and gender issues
- Cultural transition, settlement, and adjustment
Group Counselling sessions are also available.
We do not offer primary treatment for the following issues (but counsellors will assist you in finding treatment in the community):
- Substance abuse
- Eating disorders
- Psychological assessment or diagnosis
- 24/7 crisis support
- Long-term support for a diagnosed mental health disorder
While we assist with academic distress and program choice/career planning, we do not provide services such as program or course changes, timetable changes, class exemptions, withdrawals, financial aid, etc. For these services, please contact the Registrar’s Office.
Counselling Services provides support to students actively registered in a program of study at Algonquin College. Students must be enrolled at Algonquin College in a minimum of a single course consisting of at least 24 hours of instruction to be eligible to use Counselling Services.
Your access to Counselling Services will be discontinued upon program completion, or when you are no longer enrolled in a program of study. Counsellors will work with you to prepare for the planned cessation of services. Should there be an unexpected change in your student status for any reason, counsellors can provide up to one additional session to assist you in transitioning to community-based resources.

Our counsellors will work with you to create a customized plan from a broad range of mental health, career, and academic resources to help you address your concerns.
