Computer Programming (Pembroke)

Skills students have at the start of co-op work term:
- Windows and Linux Operating Systems
- Computer Languages: Java (SE8): including J2EE, Android (including enterprise level), jUnit testing framework, RMI, Design Patterns, IDE’s: Eclipse and NetBeans and C++.
- Web-focused Languages: HTML5, JavaScript, PHP and XML Computer Languages.
- Database SQL, PL/SQL, Oracle administration, MySQL, SQL Server.
- Intro level to data warehousing, BI and analytics.
- Perform routine maintenance on a database.
- Apply knowledge of networking concepts to develop, deploy, and maintain program code.
Suggested job titles:
- Application Tester
- Junior system and network installer and/or administrators
- Technical support specialists
- Customer service support representatives
- Computer trainers
- Hardware and software sales and support
Requirements to remain eligible for co-op:
Co-op students must maintain Co-op Eligibility at all times. In addition to maintaining Co-op Eligibility Criteria, students in this program must achieve:
- A minimum GPA of 2.7

- This program offers two optional co-op work terms.
- If you are an international student enrolled in the co-op program, you are required to have a valid co-op work permit before starting your work term. You must apply for and receive a Social Insurance Number to work in Canada. You are encouraged to start the application process in your preparation term as government processing time can take up to 4 months or more. Please refer to the Algonquin College International Education Centre for more information.
