Skills students have at the start of co-op work term:

  • Digital marketing skills. Google Adwords and Google Analytics certified.
  • Retail store setup and management.
  • Ecommerce website creation/set up, strategies and management (Shopify)
  • Use current concepts/systems and technologies to support an organization`s business initiatives. ie. Shopify, Google Analytics, Google Adword, Excel, Powerpoint, Word
  • Apply research skills to support business decision making .ie. creation and execution of surveys, customer profiling, competitive analysis, SWOT/CREST
  • Create and implement a marketing strategy and plan.
  • Describe and apply marketing and sales concepts used to support the operations of an organization. ie. outbound and inbound sales
  • Support the planning, implementation and monitoring of projects.
  • Use accounting and financial principles to support the creation of financial statements. ie. basic book keeping, cash flow statement, income statement and balance sheet.
  • Create and assess a business by using a Business Model Canvas
  • Propose effective management, team-building, and leadership techniques that encourage innovation in an entrepreneurial setting. ie. brainstorming, critical problem solving, design thinking and solution creation sessions

Requirements to remain eligible for co-op:

Co-op students must maintain Co-op Eligibility at all times. In addition to maintaining Co-op Eligibility Criteria, students in this program must achieve:

  • A minimum GPA of 2.7

Additional Info:

  • This program offers one optional co-op work term.
  • If you are an international student enrolled in the co-op program, you are required to have a valid co-op work permit before starting your work term. You must apply for and receive a Social Insurance Number to work in Canada. You are encouraged to start the application process in your preparation term as government processing time can take up to 4 months or more. Please refer to the Algonquin College International Education Centre for more information.
