Three Reasons Kinaxis is the Winner of the Best Ottawa Business Award for Best Performance Co-op

Last night at the Best Ottawa Business Awards, four post-secondary co-op departments in Ottawa were thrilled to name Kinaxis for Best Performance Co-op, sponsored by the Algonquin College School of Business. The Algonquin College Co-op Department with our friends at Carleton University, the University of Ottawa, and La Cité chose Kinaxis in gratitude for all they’ve done for co-op students.

As an Ottawa-based supply chain management company, Kinaxis employs co-op students from all four post-secondary institutions. Kinaxis gives students awesome experience in a variety of roles. This year alone, they’ve hired dozens of students to work on various projects in the organization.

Here are three reasons we chose Kinaxis for Best Performance Co-op.

1. Diversity of Work

One of the cool things about co-op at Kinaxis is that they hire students for all kinds of different jobs. From Quality Assurance Specialists, to Content Developers, to Supply Chain Analysts, Kinaxis brings students on from a wide array of programs.

This means that Kinaxis is able to offer workplace experience to students from many different backgrounds and many different industries. The willingness to give so many students their start in a professional environment is one of the reasons Kinaxis is our choice for Best Performance Co-op.

2. Work Experiences

One of the factors that can make co-op terms so powerful for students is the ability to work on real-world, impactful projects. These kinds of opportunities depend on the employer, and Kinaxis has a history of giving students fantastic work assignments.

In their co-op position at Kinaxis, students have done everything from developing an interactive data model poster, to building a styles and standards guide, to working on a data centralization project to help the company’s internal management.

By providing students with opportunities to participate in these projects, Kinaxis gives them a unique learning environment and fantastic work experience.

3. Job Prospects

When students enter a co-op program, one of their goals is to gain work experience that sets them up for an awesome job after they graduate. Kinaxis is very supportive of this goal, and has even hired co-op students on as permanent staff after they graduate.

This is a great example of why co-op is so beneficial for both students and employers. Students get work experience in fast-paced, real-world environments, and gain the skills necessary to land awesome jobs after graduation. Employers get to train students up to their standards, benefit from their energy and enthusiasm, and get access to a huge pool of talent way before they hit the open job market.

“For all their hard work, we’re so happy to congratulate Kinaxis as Best Performance Co-op,” says David Hall, Manager of Cooperative Education at Algonquin College. “Along with these great experiences for our students, I know that the staff in our co-op department love working with the Kinaxis HR team and hiring managers. It really is a great collaboration.”
