Can I take some time off when I’m in the Co-op program or while doing a placement?

Time off is permitted only in the case of emergency or illness. Because Co-op program is a full-time academic program, taking time off (to travel etc.) is not permitted. If you need to take time off from your placement, it needs to be approved by the employer.
