Question: What advice do you have for future students?
Answer: My advice is to take advantage of every single opportunity you can and actively seek them out. You may not realize it now, but Algonquin has so much to offer.

Meet our Valedictorian Afomia Dawit Woldeyesus

Question: What does being named valedictorian mean to you?
Answer: Being the valedictorian means a lot to me, because it’s an honour to represent my fellow classmates and my friends at the same time and at the same time it’s showed me that hard work pays off.

Question: What are some of the highlights from your time at Algonquin College?
Answer: The faculty and students have been so amazing at Algonquin. The faculty has been so approachable, especially because the first two years of my program were online. I just felt like I was super connected to everybody still, even though we were apart and that made the transition super easy when we all came in person because I already knew all the wonderful people in the program.

Question: What are some of the highlights during your time at Algonquin?
Answer: Almost every week there were events or something to do. After a busy week there was something fun or something to do. Those are the kinds of things I really liked about the school.

Question: Why did you choose Algonquin College?
Answer: I chose Algonquin because they value respect, integrity, caring and learning, not just from students, but also faculty. It wasn’t just about choosing a college, it was about choosing a community to be a part of.

Answer: Valedictorian is clearly an honour. I really could not have done it without my classmates and my peers. They are the reason I’m here. It could have gone to so many people and so many others in the School of Public Safety, so I want to say thank you, it is absolutely a great honour.

Why did you choose Algonquin College?

When choosing where I would continue my education, it was important to me that I picked somewhere with a smaller campus, where I could know all my classmates and could create a lasting legacy somewhere. Picking Algonquin was a hard choice as for me personally it was five hours away from where I call home and away from everything that was familiar. Seeing the beautiful campus, connecting with some great staff and enjoying the small-town feel helped me make my decision. Continue reading

Answer: I’ve had many highlights from my last four years, but some of the recent ones include the ample opportunities to network with industry professionals in interior design.

Wendy Jocko awarded honorary degree from Algonquin College

In the span of a lifetime people wear many hats. In her long, distinguished andheadshot of convocation honoree Wendy Jocko on a dark green background varied career Wendy Jocko has worn a hard hat, a helmet and a headdress. The former chief of the Algonquins of Pikwàkanagàn First Nation, Jocko, 63 will be donning a ceremonial mortarboard this June when she is awarded an honorary degree from Algonquin College at its 2023 Spring Convocation.
