Residence: Can I choose my own roommate?

Applying to Residence is an exciting time! There are so many benefits to living in Residence including:

  • Joining a built-in community
  • Opportunity to meet new friends and get involved

You are excited about moving into Residence and taking advantage of all of the benefits but there is one thing that is making you a little nervous – what about your future roommate? We bet you are wondering how your roommate is chosen and whether you can choose your own.

When you are accepted into Residence, you will be asked to fill out a Personality Profile. In the first week of August, the Roommate Selection part of your “My Housing Portal” is available to all students who have been accepted to Residence and made their payments.

Using the Roommate Selection option in the Portal, you can choose your own roommate! You can search for someone that you already know or you can search for potential roommates by filtering answers from the Personality Profile questions to find the perfect fit for you.

If you don’t want to choose your own roommate, you will be matched by Residence. Your roommate is selected based on your answers, so answer the questions truthfully to ensure the best possible match for you.

In August, you will receive the name and contact information for your roommate. This gives you the chance to reach out and get to know them better! Here are a few suggestions for questions you should ask your future roommate.
