Four years ago, Jaiveer Singh Bawa had a newly minted degree in architecture, his own firm, and was busy designing luxury homes in northern India. “But it wasn’t driving my passion,” he recalls.

Algonquin College’s Coat of Arms is featured in a new brochure called DARE to stand out released by the Office of the Secretary to the Governor General.
Produced by The Canadian Heraldic Authority, which is headed by the Governor General, the guide outlines best practices for heraldic images. In a section called “Explore a Variety of Emblems,” Algonquin’s Coat of Arms, flag, banners and badge are showcased.

When Kane Odjick-Dumont left his community in western Quebec to attend Algonquin College two-and-a-half-hours away, it was so he could help his community when he went back.
But as it turned out, not everything of value learned during his two-year Social Service Worker program was taught in the classroom. Odjick-Dumont’s experience with Algonquin’s Mamidosewin Centre, whose goal is to support and empower Indigenous students, left him with a deeper sense of his culture than he had when he arrived.
