Innovation on display: learners tackle real-world challenges with applied research
Posted on Tuesday, December 3rd, 2024
At the Applied Research Student Project Showcase on Dec. 3, learners across the college presented over 88 applied research projects in areas such as computer science, engineering, media, hospitality, and healthcare, with 35 projects focused on community health in nursing.
The event is the cumulation of months of dedicated work on cutting-edge projects that have been developed in collaboration with industry, community, and institutional partners, highlighting how applied research is making an impact and driving positive change in our community.
In addition to the project showcase, guest speaker Julia Slanina joined the event to speak to the college community. Slanina is an entrepreneur, community builder, digital health innovator, and founder and CEO of Treehouse. “One of the most impactful things we can do is bridge the gap between academia and industry. Innovation thrives when we breakdowns silos and work together to bring meaningful change. Research is not an isolated endeavor, it is the key to finding solutions for the future,” said Slanina, driving home the importance of research, innovation, and the experience the learners gain through these initiatives.
New to this edition of the Applied Research Student Project Showcase, was the creation of an award category for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) research projects.
